CHAP. 159.

twice in every year, in stated semi-annual meetings, to
be appointed by their own ordinances, and at such other
times, as by their said ordinances, or by their own ad-
journments, they may direct, and when so assembled they
shall have power from time to time, to appoint a Presi-

dent, Treasurer and Secretary; to make contracts with
the Professors or Teachers relative to the instruction of
the scholars to be placed under their care, and for the
payment of their salaries; to examine the progress of the
students and scholars; to hear and determine on all com-
plaints and appeals, ami upon all matters touching the
discipline and government of the said Academy, and the
execution of their ordinances; and generally to manage
the state and concerns of the Seminary in such manner as
they shall deem best for the advantage of said institution.

CHAPTER 159.

Passed Mar. 10, 1835

An act to authorise the building a bridge over the head wa-
ters of St. Mary's River, in St. Mary's County.

Commissioners.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the Levy Court of St. Mary's county, be, and
they are hereby authorised and required, at their first meet-
ing after the passage of this act, to appoint three discreet

disinterested persons, commissioners, to contract for the
building a bridge over the head waters of the St. Mary's
river, at or near the Great Mills, or at such place as may
seem to said commissioners best suited to the public conve-
nience, whose duty it shall be when they have made such
contract, to make a report of their proceedings, to the said
Levy Court.

Levy-payment

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the said Levy Court,
upon the return of the proceedings of said commissioners,
shall cause the amount contracted by them for the building
said bridge, to be levied, collected, and paid over to said
commissioners, or any one of them, and the same to be paid
by the said commissioners or commissioner, to said contrac-
tor, when they shall be satisfied of his having completed

said bridge agreeably to contract; and said commissioners
shall receive for each day they may be engaged in locating
a site for said bridge, and in contracting for the same, and
