CHAPTER 183.
An act for founding a College in the city of Frederick, by the
name of Frederick College.
|
Passed Feb. 27, 1830.
|
WHEREAS, it is represented to the General
Assembly by the
President and Visitors of Frederick county school, that it is
now conducted with able teachers, and that its usefulness
would be greatly promoted by investing them with powers to
confer Collegiate honors and degrees upon deserving students;
Therefore,

Preamble.
|
Section 1. Be it enacted by
the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the said school be constituted into a college or
seminary of learning by the name of Frederick College, and
that the said President, Visitors and their successors, from
time to time, and at all times hereafter forever, shall have full
power and authority to constitute and appoint, in such manner
as they shall think best and most convenient, a Principal of
said college, and Professors, with tutors and assistants, for
instructing the students and scholars of said seminary, in all
the liberal arts and sciences and in the ancient and modern
tongues and languages, who shall be severally styled Professors
of such arts, sciences, languages or tongues, as they shall
be appointed for, and the said principal and professors so constituted
and appointed from time to time, shall be known and
distinguished forever, as one learned body or faculty, by the
name of the Principal and Professors of Frederick College in
the state of Maryland, and by that name shall be capable of
exercising such powers and authorities, as the said principal,
visitors and their successors, shall by their ordinances, think
necessary to delegate to them for the instruction, discipline and
government of the said seminary, and of all the students, scholars,
ministers and servants belonging thereto, and the same or
either of them, to remove from office at the pleasure of said
president and visitors.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted,
That the corporate name of the
said president and visitors and their successors, shall be changed
to and known by the name of the President and Visitors
of Frederick College, and by that name shall have all the right
power and authority, now vested by law in the said president
and visitors or any of them.
