said river, commonly called and known by the name of
Williams' Ferry, of such materials and of such construction as
they in their judgment may think best calculated to promote
the public interest; Provided, the same shall be commenced
within three years, and completed within five years after the
passage of this act.
  CHAP. 96.  



Limit.
    Sec. 2.  And be it enacted, That the Judges of said Levy
Court shall not levy the whole sum in any one year, but may
levy a certain portion of said money each and every year, on
the assessable property of said county, not exceeding two
thousand dollars in any one year, until a sufficient sum is raised,
not exceeding twelve thousand dollars.
    Not more than
$2000 in one year.
    Sec. 3.  And be it enacted, That the Levy Court of said
county are hereby authorised to enter into and make contracts
with any person or persons, competent to build said bridge;
and are required to take bond or bonds, with sufficient security,
from any contractor or contractors, for the faithful performance
of the contracts entered into for building said
bridge.
Contracts—bonds.
    Sec. 4.  And be it enacted, That for the speedy accomplishment
of the object of this law, the Levy Court of said county are authorised,
if in their judgment it shall be thought expedient and
proper, to raise by loan, on the credit of the county, at an annual
interest of six per cent. the sum required for the building
of said bridge, to be paid by the aforesaid annual levies on
the assessable property of said county, of a sum not exceeding
two thousand dollars.
Loan authorised.
    Sec. 5.  And be it enacted, That when said bridge is built,
it shall be a free bridge for passengers to pass and repass.
Bridge free.
    Sec. 6.  And be it enacted, That the act entitled, an act for
establishing and building a bridge across the Monocacy river,
in the county of Frederick, passed at December session eighteen
hundred and seventeen, chapter one hundred and twenty-six,
be, and the same is hereby repealed.
Repeal.

                                        CHAPTER 97.

A supplement to the act, entitled, an act to authorise the Levy
    Court of Caroline county to build a bridge and open certain
    roads in said county, and for other purposes, passed
    at December session, eighteen hundred and twenty-six, chapter
    one hundred and forty-six.



Passed Feb. 19, 1830.
    WHEREAS, doubts are entertained as to the extent and powers
of the commissioners named in the act to which this is a supplement,
therefore,
Preamble.
    Section 1.  Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the said commissioners, or a majority of them, be,
