any lands, tenements or hereditaments, within this
state, which
he has acquired, or may acquire, in the same manner, and as
fully as he might have, held, taken, possessed or enjoyed the
same, as if he were a naturalized citizen of the United States.

CHAPTER 50.
An act to incorporate the Trustees of Saint Charles' College.

Preamble
|
WHEREAS, Charles Carroll, of Carrollton,
having it in contemplation
to found a Seminary in Anne Arundel county, for
the education of young men of the Roman Catholic religion,
for the Ministry of the Gospel, hath by his petition, applied to
the General Assembly for leave to convey to Lewis Deluol,
John S. Chanche, Alexius I. Elder, John Tissier and Samuel
Eccleston, to them and their successors forever, a certain parcel
of land, about two hundred acres, more or less, in said
county, to be held in trust for the purpose aforesaid, and to
bestow on them a pecuniary donation, for the purpose aforesaid,
and whereas the said Charles Carroll, of Carrollton hath by
his petition, also prayed, that the said Lewis Deluol, John S.
Chanche, Alexius I. Elder, Samuel Eccleston and John Tissier,
all naturalized citizens of the United States, and their successors,
may be incorporated and made a body politic, for the
purpose aforesaid; wherefore,

Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the
General Assembly of Maryland,
That Lewis Deluol, John Tissier, Samuel Eccleston, Alexius I.
Elder and John S. Chanche, be, and they are hereby declared to
be, one body politic and corporate, by the name of the trustees
of Saint Charles College, and by that name and style they and
their successors shall have perpetual succession, and shall be
capable in law to sue and be sued, plead and be impleaded, in
any court of law or equity within this state, and elsewhere,
and to make, change and alter, at pleasure, a common seal, and
shall be able and capable to receive and hold the said donation,
deed and gift of the said Charles Carroll, of Carrollton,
as designated in the preamble to this act, and to receive and
hold any property, real or personal, acquired either by purchase,
gift, grant or devise not exceeding the whole yearly
value of six thousand dollars, in trust for the purpose designated
in the preamble hereto.

Vacancies of trustees.
|
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted,
That as frequently as vacancies
shall occur, in the number of the said five trustees,
the same shall be filled up by the survivors or a majority of
them, selection being always made from among the Roman
Catholic Clergy of Maryland, and so on in succession for ever;
due notice being always given of any such election to the
members of the board, by the Principal for the time being.
