CHAP. 4.

with the consent of the owner or owners of lots
binding on said
streets and alleys, to shut up such portion of the streets and
alleys as in their judgment they may think proper, and the
same when shut up, to rent for such terms as in their judgment
they may deem proper, not exceeding five years at any
one time, and provided also, that the tenant or tenants shall
deliver up possession to the said Levy Court at the expiration
of his, her, or their lease, on thirty days notice in writing.

proceeds.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted,
That the money arising from said
rents, be applied in the discretion, and under the direction of
said court, to repair the streets and alleys in said town.

CHAPTER 5.
An act to change the name of William W. Williams, of
Dorchester county, to that of William W. Thompson.
|
Name changed.
|
Sec. 1. Be it enacted by
the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the name of William W. Williams of Dorchester county,
be, and the same is hereby changed and altered unto that of
William W. Thompson: and it shall and may be lawful for the
said William W. Williams, at all times hereafter, to be called
and known by, and hold and use the name of William W.
Thompson, and by that name to sue and be sued, in any court
of law or equity; and it shall and may be lawful, for the issue
of the said William W. Williams hereafter to be born, to take
upon themselves and each of them, the surname of Thompson,
and the said issue shall be called by, hold, and use the name
of Thompson.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted,
That all securities, promises,
contracts, assurances, deeds, and lawful acts, whatsoever,
[hereafter] made or done, or hereafter to be made or done, by
or to the said William W. Williams, by the name of William
W. Thompson, shall be of the same force and effect, and
equal avail, to all intents and purposes, as if the name of
William W. Thompson had been the true and proper name of
William W. Williams from his birth, any law to the contrary
notwithstanding.
