CHAP. CLVIII.

Passed Mar 11,1829

A Supplement to the act, entitled, An act to regulate the
Gauging of Casks and the Inspection of Domestic Dis-
tilled Liquors in this State, passed at December Ses-
sion eighteen hundred and twenty-seven, chapter one

Sec. 1. Be it exacted by the General Assembly of Ma-
ryland, That from and after the first day of April next, it
shall be the duty of the gaugers and inspectors of domes-
tic liquors, appointed under the act to which this is a
supplement, in addition to the mark of the capacity of the
cask, and the number of gallons of proof spirit which he is
required to make under the fourth section of said act, to
mark also, in the same manner, the degrees of proof of said
liquors, as first, second, third, fourth or fifth proof, agree-
ably to the standard established by said section.

An Act to Incorporate the Canton Company of Balti-
more.

Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Ma-
ryland, That William Patterson, Francis Price, Columbus
O'Donnell, Ely Moore, Gideon Lee, Peter Cooper, and
James Ramsay, and all and every other person or persons
hereafter becoming members of the Canton Company of
cessors and assigns, shall be and they are hereby created
style of The Canton Company of Baltimore, and by that
name shall and may have perpetual succession, and be ca-
pable in law of purchasing, holding, improving and dispos-
ing of, property, real, personal, or mixed, to the extent, in
the manner, and for the purposes herein authorised, and
may sue and be sued, plead and be impleaded, answer and
defend, and be answered and defended, in all courts of law
and equity, and may receive and make all deeds, transfers,
covenants, conveyances, grants, contracts, agreements and
bargains, whatsoever, necessary for the said purposes; and
may have and use a common seal, which they shall have
power to renew or alter at pleasure; and generally may do
every other act or thing necessary to carry into effect the

provisions of this act, and promote the objects and designs
of said company as authorised by this act; Provided, that
nothing herein contained shall authorise said company to
hold more than two thousand acres of land at any one
time.
