she or they have read and understood the requirements and
condition of the law relating to the granting of said license
and to the sale of said beverages thereunder, and if such ap-
plicant or applicants answer yes, then the Clerk or his deputy
acting in the particular case shall issue the license and shall
sign his name upon the margin of the same so that, he may
thereafter be able to identify his own signature; but if such
applicant or applicants shall answer that they have not read
or do not understand said requirements and conditions of the
law the Clerk or his acting deputy shall not issue such license
and shall continue to decline to issue the same until the appli-
cant or applicants shall answer that they have read and un-
derstand said requirements and conditions.
340. If the license applied for shall be for nine months,
then the license fee shall be two-thirds of the amounts sev-
erally specified for the twelve months' licenses enumerated
in the preceding section; and if the license applied for shall be
for six months then the license fee shall be one-half of the
amount severally specified for the twelve months' license
enumerated in the preceding section.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1st, 1920.

CHAPTER 351.
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments, Section 45
of Article 59 of the Annotated Code of Public Civil Laws
of Maryland, title "Lunatics and Insane," sub-title "The
Lunacy Commission," by providing for the amount to be
paid into the State Treasury for each patient in any
State hospital for the insane from Baltimore City and
from any one of the counties in the State.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 45 of Article 59 of the Annotated Code of
Public Civil Laws, title "Lunatics and Insane," .sub-title
"The Lunacy Commission," be and the same is hereby re-
pealed and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
45. For each patient in any State hospital for the insane
from Baltimore City or in any one of the counties of the
State the said city or county, as the case may be, shall as
