elected Mayor or Councilman shall cease to be a resident or
freeholder in said town, he shall immediately cease to hold or
exercise said office, and it is hereby declared vacant and shall
be filled as hereinafter provided. The Mayor and Council-
men'shall receive no pay for their services except the Mayor
who shall be entitled to the fees hereinafter allowed. During
his said term of office, the Treasurer shall also be the tax col-
lector for said town and perform all of the duties of said
office and receive such compensation as is provided for the
same.

SEC. 7. And be it further enacted, That the Council shall
meet in some convenient place in said town on or before the
first Monday in April next succeeding election, and as often
thereafter as may be necessary in the discharge of the duties
of their office, not less, however, than once in every month.
A majority of the Council shall constitute a quorum for the
transaction of business, but a less number may adjourn to a
further time.

SEC. 9. And be it further enacted, That the Treasurer
shall receive all monies belonging to said corporation and
safely keep the same and pay the same out only upon the
order of the Mayor and Clerk; he shall also keep a correct
account of all receipts and disbursements which account shall
be at all reasonable times open to the inspection of said Coun-
cil or any member thereof; he shall also act as tax collector
for said corporation and perform all of the duties of said
office.

SEC. 19. And be it further enacted, That the said Council,
as often as they shall deem it advisable, shall cause an assess-
ment to be made of all the real and personal property within
said town or the corporate limits thereof, which assessment
shall not exceed the assessment of the same for the county pur-
poses, and the Council shall levy a tax thereon not exceeding
one dollar on the one hundred dollars' worth of assessable
property in any one year.

SEC. 21. And be it further enacted, That whenever the
Council shall levy a tax they shall cause to be made out an
alphabetical list of the persons charged thereon and shall
cause to be affixed the respective suras to be collected from
such persons and issue a warrant to the Treasurer to collect
the same.
