per annum, and the Councilmen shall each receive the sum of
nine dollars per annum, as compensation for their respective
services, to be paid annually out of the funds of the said
municipal corporation.

SEC. 596. The Burgess and Council shall elect from their
own number, a secretary, who shall keep a record of the pro-
ceedings of the Burgess and Councilmen, and shall perform
such other duties as may be assigned to him by the Burgess
and Council, and they shall allow such secretary such com-
pensation as they shall deem proper not to exceed three dol-
lars per annum. They shall also appoint a treasurer, assigned
his duties and allow him such compensation as they shall deem
proper not to exceed six dollars per annum. The treasurer
shall receive and disburse, on the order of the Burgess, all
moneys collected under any of the ordinances of the corpora-
tion, and shall give bond to the Burgess and Council of Myers-
ville, with such security as they shall require, and in such
sum as they shall deem adequate, not less than five hundred
dollars. He shall report annually to the Burgess and Council,
and as often as required by them, the financial condition of
the town, with an account of all money received and expended,
with the proper vouchers therefor, which said account shall
at all times be open for the inspection of any voters of the
town, and the same may be published in a county newspaper.
The treasurer shall collect all taxes levied by the Burgess and
Council and shall have the same power to distrain and sell
therefor as the collector of county taxes.

The secretary shall enter in a book to be kept by him for
that purpose, all ordinances passed by the Burgess and Coun-
cil, which ordinances shall be signed by the Burgess and at-
tested to by the secretary, and which book shall be kept open
at all times for public inspection, and accessible to the Bur-
gess, and copies of all ordinances signed and attested as afore-
said shall be put up in the most public places or printed in a
newspaper published in said town, in order that the same may
be generally known.

SEC. 598. The Burgess and Councilmen may enact ordi-
nances for the following purposes, to wit: To open new
streets, to close, straighten, widen and grade streets, to grade,
construct, level and repair sidewalks, to construct, causeways,
to establish building lines and curb lines, to adopt and pro-
vide for an efficient drainage system, to maintain its cleanli-
