1448 JOINT RESOLUTIONS

Further Resolved, That the Secretary of the State of Mary-
land be requested to send a copy of these resolutions properly
certified to the family of Frank Brown.

Approved March 9, 1920.

No. 13.

JOINT RESOLUTION relative to the observance of Armis-
tice Day in the State of Maryland.

WHEREAS, The Eleventh Day of November, 1918. lias been
made sacred to the hearts of the American people, in that it
was the day on which the world's greatest tragedy was arrest
ed and the awful pull at the people's heart-strings relaxed;
and

WHEREAS, On this day there terminated that war which
overthrew the inhuman monster, who laid blood hands upon
nearly every home of a peace-blest earth ; and

WHEREAS, The world on this day was assured of the fact
that the struggle of democratic nations for liberty and for
righteousness had triumphed over the kultur and the crime of
the Scientific Barbarians, and that autocracy and diabolical
tyranny lay defeated and crushed behind the long rows of
white crosses which stretch across Europe from the English
Channel to the Adriatic Sea; therefore

Be it Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the President of the United States be and he is hereby memo-
rialized to designate the 11th day of November in each year as
the day of national thanksgiving, and that day be devoted
by the people of the United States, and especially the people
of this State, in addition to rendering thanks to Almighty God
for the innumerable benefits received by them throughout the
year, to the strengthening of those noble sentiments of patriot-
ism common to the American people, and to the love for the
cause for which the sous of Maryland fought and gave their
lives in the World's War, and especially recommending to the
parents and teachers in the public schools that they encourage
their children or those under their influence to reverently
observe this day and to unite with the religious, patriotic and
Fraternal organizations, etc., of their respective communities
and celebrate the occasion in a fitting and impressive manner;
