No. 11.

JOINT RESOLUTION extending the thanks of the General
Assembly of Maryland to Dr. J. Harris Rogers, of
Hyattsville, Md.

WHEREAS, Doctor John Harris Rogers, of Hyattsville,
Maryland, has marked an epoch in scientific achievement in
radio by the discovery of the underground and underwater
system of radio communication; and

WHEREAS, The Navy Department of the United States ex-
pedited the issuance of patents to Doctor James Harris
Rogers by direct request to the Department of the Interior,
and used effectively the Rogers System throughout the partici-
pation of the United States in the World War. when sub-
marines menaced the ocean, when cables were being cut, and
when static interfered with raised aerials; and

WHEREAS, The Rogers System is being installed in various
parts of the world by the Navy Department of the United
States; and

WHEREAS, Doctor James Harris Rogers, both in peace and
in war. has rendered a distinctive service to the republic of
science and discovered a vital aid to the Government of the
United States;

WHEREAS. The State of Maryland takes a just pride in the
achievements of her distinguished son ; Therefore, he it

RESOLVED, That the thanks of the General Assembly of the
State of Maryland be, and the same are, hereby presented to
Doctor James Harris Rogers for his notable scientific- achieve-
ment.

SEC. 2. That an engrossed copy of this resolution be for-
warded to Doctor James Harris Rogers.

Approved April 9, 1920.

WHEREAS, It has pleased God to remove from our midst
Frank Brown, who, in his life, held with honor to himself
and 1o this State many high offices of public and private trust,
including that of Governor of Maryland.
