enter into bond to the State of Maryland in the penalty of two
thousand dollars ($2,000.00) condition for the faithful dis-
charge of his duties as such secretary, the said bond to be
approved by the said Board of Police Commissioners.
The Board of Police Commissioners for the City of Balti-
more are hereby authorized to employ such number of women
as charwomen for the several station-houses in the City of
Baltimore as may in the judgment of the said Board of Police
Commissioners be necessary to care for the said station-houses;
and the said charwomen and substitute charwomen so em-
ployed shall each receive a salary of fifteen dollaivs a week,
payable at such regular periods as the Board of Police Com-
missioners may prescribe, not less than twice a month, said
salary to be paid by the Mayor and City Council of Balti-
more and to be included in the annual estimate of expenses
be said Hoard of Police Commissioners, certified to the Mayor
and City Council of Baltimore.
The salary of the said chief physician shall bo fifteen hun-
dred dollars per annum, payable monthly: and the salary of
each of the other said phyisicians shall be twelve hundred dol-
lars per annum, payable monthly; but the tenure of office of
the said chief physician and each of the other of said
physicians shall be determinable within the term for which he
or they were appointed by. a majority of the said Board, and
in their exclusive discretion; and the said chief physician and
each of the other of said physicians shall be compensated only
up to the time of such determination at the rate of his or their
salary aforesaid.
SECTION 2. And be it further enacted. That all persons hold-
ing offices, ranks and grades in the Police Department at the
time this Act takes effect, and whose pay is increased thereby,
shall be entitled to receive such increase dating from the
fifteenth day of January, 1920; or from the time they were
appointed to the Police Department; if such appointments oc-
curred subsequent to the fifteenth day of January. 1920; and
the Board of Police Commissioners are directed to pay in-
creases accruing from January 15th, 1920, to the persons en-
titled thereto as soon as may be convenient.
SECTION 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act is
hereby declared to be an emergency law. and necessary for the
immediate preservation of the public health and safety, and
