twenty thousand dollars ($20,000) for the construction
of both of said roads, not more than fourteen thousand
dollars ($14,000) of which shall be applied for the con-
struction of the said Jones Mill Road, and not more than
six thousand ($6,000) dollars of which shall be applied for
the construction" of the said Friendship Heights Road, pro-
vided when the County Commissioners of Montgomery
County issue said bonds for said purpose, for the col-
lection and levying of taxes on the assessable property of
the Seventh Election District (Bethesda District) of said
county, for the payment of said bonds and interest cou-
pqns thereon; providing that when said highways shall be
put in good repair and the same be satisfactory to the
State Roads Commission then said highways shall be and
become a part of the State highway system of the State of
Maryland as now provided by law for the taking over
State-aid highways by the State Roads Commission when
the same shall have been put in good repair.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the County Commissioners of Montgomery County
be and they are hereby authorized, empowered and directed
to put in good repair the two roads known respectively as
the Jones Mill Road from the Rockville Pike to the Brook-
ville Road, and the Friendship Heights Road from the Rock-
ville Pike to the River Road, both of said roads lying wholly
in the Bethesda or Seventh Election District of said county,;
and to use funds, in whole, or in part, for said construction,
and in such amount as they may deem necessary, that may be
allotted to Montgomery County for road purposes by the
said State Roads Commission under any general law of the
State of Maryland.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That if the said County
Commissioners of Montgomery County shall not deem it wise,
or proper, to have used for said purposes the said funds that
may be allotted to Montgomery County for road purposes as
herein authorized, then, and in that event, they are hereby
authorized, empowered and directed to borrow on the credit
of said county a sum not to exceed twenty thousand dollars
($20,000) for the purpose of putting in good repair, and
satisfactory to the State Roads Commission of Maryland, the
said two roads hereinbefore named, not more than fourteen
