In the event that any of said officers shall be abolished or
The Johns Hopkins University or The Board of Trade of
Baltimore cease to exist, the trustees provided for herein are
hereby granted the power to designate in writing such other
person, officer or corporation as, in their discretion, may
seem best, to be substituted as the appointing authority in the
place and stead of the incumbent of any officer so abolished,
or of the President of The Johns Hopkins University, or of
the President of The Board of Trade of Baltimore, as the case
may be.
All appointments shall be made for five years, except the
appointments first made, which shall be as follows: The
trustee appointed by the Governor of Maryland one year;
the trustee appointed by the Mayor of the City of Baltimore,
two years; the trustee appointed by the Chief Judge of the
Supreme Bench of Baltimore City, one year; the trustee ap-
pointed by the Judge of the United States District Court for
the District of Maryland, three years; the trustee appointed
by the President of The Johns Hopkins University, three
years; one of the trustees appointed by the President of The
Board of Trade of Baltimore, four years ; and the other trustee
appointed by said President, five years.
Vacancies in the membership of the trustees may be filled
for the unexpired term by the authority authorized to make the
original appointment. If any of the persons authorized to
make the appointments shall fail to make such appointments
within ninety days after the mailing of a written request from
the other trustees, then such vacancy shall be filled by the
majority vote of the trustees, such appointment to continue in
force until the expiration of the term for which an appoint-
ment might have been made by the person authorized to do so.
If at any time there should be less than a majority of seven
trustees serving as such trustees, whether by reason or a fail-
ure to appoint trustees or for any other reason, and if such
lack of a majority of such trustees should continue for three
months, then any trustee or other citizen of the State of Mary-
land may apply to any court having chancery jurisdiction in
the City of Baltimore for the appointment of new trustees, and
the said court shall appoint such new trustees to fill unexpired
terms or full terms if necessary.
The first appointment of trustees shall be made before Janu-
ary 1, 1921, and as soon as appointed the said trustees shall
