missioners of said County, who shall have power to appoint
some competent person for the unexpired term of the Clerk
so removed, said clerk shall be paid for his services the sum
of twelve hundred dollars per annum, payable in monthly
instalments of one hundred dollars at the expiration of each
and every mouth by the treasurer of Garrett County from
the funds of said County and the said Clerk shall have full
power to administer an oath or affirmation to any and all
persons who are to be examined as witnesses in any matter
before the County Commissioners, and touching or relating
to any account, bill or other matter to he filed in the office
of said County Commissioners the said salary of twelve
hundred dollars per annum shall, he full compensation for
all services required of said Clerk, who shall keep the office
of County Commissioners open from nine o'clock in the
forenoon until four o'clock in the afternoon, and who shall
attend therein for the transaction op business on every day
of the week except Sundays and legal holidays.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect on the first day of June. 1920.

CHAPTER 634.
AN ACT to add a new section to Article 13 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland, title, "Harford County,"
sub-title. "Havre de Grace," to be known as Section
279-A, and to follow immediately after Section 279 of
said Article, exempting bona fine members of the fire
department from city taxes.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That a new section be and it is hereby added to
Article 13 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland,
title, "Harford County," sub-title, "Havre de Grace," to be
known as Section 279-A, to follow immediately after Section
279 of said Article and to read as follows:
279-A. Each bona fide active member of the Fire Depart-
ment of the City of Havre de Grace shall be exempt from
taxation for city purposes to the extent of one thousand
($1.000) dollars, which exemption shall in no way deprive
