CHAP. 57.

Persons incor-
porated

intentions, and the Legislature being desirous to pro-
mote such useful institutions: — Therefore,
SECTTCX 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That James Webb, George Henisler,
Andrew Martin, Philip Reily, Simon Kemp, and others
that now are or may hereafter become members of said
corporation herein erected or may be admitted into the
said corporation, agreeably to th constitution, rules
and by-laws of the same, and their successors are

hereby declared to be one community, corporation and
body politic by the name, style, and title of the Cal-
vert Beneficial Society, provided the said society may
be dissolved at any time with the consent of its mem-
bers, as hereinafter provided.

Officers

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the affairs of said
association shall be conducted by a President, Vice
President, Secretary, and Treasurer, who shall be
elected annually on the first Monday of January, and
three Stewarts, who shall be appointed by the President

SEC. S. And be it enacted, That the present members
of the said society and their successors, by their cor-
porate name shall and may have succession, and shall
and may at all times hereafter be persons able and ca-
pable in law to purchase, take, have and enjoy to them
and their successors in fee simple or lease estate or
estates, any land, tenements, rents, annuities, merchan-
dize, bank stock, internal improvement, state or city
corporation stock, registered debt or other public se-
curities within the State, by the gift, purchase or devise
of, or from any person or persons, bodies politic or
corporations capable of making the same, and the same
at their option to alien, sell, transfer or lease in such

manner as may most appropriate to the charitable de-
signs and purposes of said association, provided how-
ever, that the said corporation shall not at any time
hold or possess property, real, personal, or mixed,
exceeding in total value, the sum of ten thousand dol-
lars.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the members of the
said corporation, and their successors, may meet to-
gether on the first Monday of April, one thousand eight
hundred and thirty seven, at a suitable place in the
city of Baltimore, and on the same day annually there-
after, and may then and there elect the officers of the
