CHAPTER 809.

An act to incorporate the citizens of Taney town, Car-
roll county.

Incorporated

SECTION I. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the citizens or inhabitants of Taney
town, in Can-oil county, shall be, and they are hereby
constituted and made a body corporate by the name of
the Burgess and Commisaioners of Taney town, with
all the privileges of a body corporate, and to have a
common seal and perpetual succession.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the free white male
citizens of Taney town aforesaid, of the age of twenty-
one years and upwards, and having resided in the said
town for and during the space of twelve months next
preceeding the election, shall on the first Monday of
April next, at the house now occupied by Samuel Heagy,
and on the first Monday of April in every year here-
after forever, at such place as shall be designated by
the burgess and commissioners, be authorised to elect
a burgess and three commissioners for said town, who

have resided within the limits of the said town twelve
months next preceeding the election, and be upwards of
twenty-one years of age.

Judge of first
election

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That a justice of the peace
of the said county shall appoint by writing under his
hand and seal, three judges to hold the first election,
who shall open the polls at nine o'clock in the morning
and keep the same open until three o'clock in the even-
ing, and shall conduct the said election in the manner
in which the judges of election are now by law direct-
ed to conduct an election for Delegates to the General

Assembly, as far as may be consistent with this act,
and the said judges shall make return under their hand
and seal of the persons elected, to the clerk of Carroll
county, to be by him safely kept.

Future election

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That all future elections
shall be held and conducted as shall be directed by the
ordinances of the corporation,

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That the burgess shall
preside at all meetings of the municipality, and shall
sign all ordinances of the corporation passed by the
commissioners, or a majority of them.
