SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the tenth section of
the act to which this is a supplement, shall be constru-
ed only to prohibit the said company from establishing
any banking institution, and from issuing at any time
any note or obligation in the style, or of the nature of
a bank note.

CHAP. 272.

SEC. 3. And be if enacted, That the charter of said
company as amended, explained and enlarged by the
supplements thereto, shall continue in force, until the
first day of January in the year eighteen hundred and
sixty-five, and thereafter until repealed as it may
thenceforth at any time be either in whole or iu part at
the discretion of the Legislature.

CHAPTER 272.


An act relating to the form in which Promissory Notes
may be given to the Incorporated Banks of this State.

Passed Mar. 20,
1837.

WHEREAS, doubts are entertained whether the in-
corporated banks of this State, may for loans or other
transactions within their corporate powers, take and
enforce the payment of notes made to said corporations,
as payees, or to some one of the officers of said corpo-
poration as such, as payees, and also whether on such
notes it be lawful for them to receive interest by way
of discount, or in advance as is usual upon notes with
endorsers, passed to such corporations, — Therefore;

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That it shall and may be lawful for said in-
corporate banks and all other banks that shall hereaf-
ter be incorporated in this State, to take and recover
upon, and enforce payment of notes hereafter made as
aforesaid to such corporations, or to officers of the
same, as. such, and so designated in such notes, and
thereon to take and receive interest as aforesaid.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the corporations
aforesaid shall be entitled to sue and recover in the
names of such corporations, upon any promissory notes
that shall hereafter be made as aforesaid, to any offi-
cer or officers of such corporations, as such, and so
designated in such notes.
