this section, the said company shall be answerable in
damages, in an action on the case at the suit of the
party aggrieved.

CHAP. 263.
Penalty for neg-
lect

SKC. 6. And be it enacted, That the right is hereby
reserved to the State of Maryland to repeal or alter
this law at pleasure.

SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That the board of direc-
tors, be, and they are hereby authorised to reduce the
rate of tolls from time to time, in their discretion, for
passengers upon the Washington branch of said road,
by carrying them to and from the respective cities of
Washington and Baltimore, or to and from any point

or points on said branch road, on the same day, for a
less sum than is now authorised; provided always, that
one fifth part of all such passage money so received be
accounted for and paid into the State treasury.

CHAPTER 262.


Aa act to authorise James M. Selden, of Baltimore coun-
ty, to bring into this State the several slaves therein
named.

Passed Mar.15,
1837.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That it shall and may be lawful for James M. Selden,
of Baltimore county, to bring into this State, from the
State of Virginia, the following named slaves for life,
to wit: Tom, Eliza and her son Ferdinand; provided,
that the said James M. Selden shall, in all respects,
comply with the provisions of the act, entitled, a for-
ther supplement to an act, entitled, an act relating to
free negroes and slaves, passed at December session,
eighteen hundred and thirty-three, chapter eighty-
seven.

CHAPTER 263.

Permission
granted

A supplement to the act, entitled, an act to incorporate
the Buckingham Academy, in Worcester county, passed,
at, December session, eighteen hundred and thirteen,
chapter thirteen.

Passes Mar. 15.
