CHAPTER 211.

1837.

An act to provide for building a Bridge over Dividing
Creek, at a place called Denston's Sams, on the pub-
lic Road, leading from Princess Ann, in Somerset
County, to Snow Hill, in Worcester County.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Jones Bounds and Levin P. Atkinson
of Worcester county, and William Mills, of Samuel,
and Tubman Lankford of Somerset county, be, and
they are hereby appointed commissioners, who, or a
majority of whom shall have full power and authority
to act, contract with, and employ any person or per-
sons to build a bridge over Dividing Creek, at Den-
ston's dams, on the public road leading from Princess
Ann in Somerset county, to Snow Hill, in Worcester
county.

tract

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty
of the aforesaid commissioners or a majority of them
to offer the contract for building the said bridge, pub-
licly at Puzey's store, in Somerset county, to the low-
est and best bidder, after having given three weeks
public notice in the Worcester Sentinel, a paper pub-
lished in Snow Hill, and in the Village Herald, a pa-

of offering the same; provided, that the individual or
individuals who shall bid off the said contract, shall
give b.ond in a penalty, double the amount of the con-
tract, with security to be approved by the said com-

missioners, for the construction of the said bridge, in
a durable and workmanlike manner; and provided al-
so, that the said contract shall not exceed the sum of
four hundred dollars.

Report directed

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the aforesaid com-
missioners or a majority of them, after contracting for
building the said bridge, shall report the amount and
terms of the said contract to the levy courts of Somer-
set and Worcester counties, and whether the said
bridge has been built according to its terms, and if
they shall report that it has been constructed accorc-
ing to the terms of the contract, the levy court of Som-
