An act to Incorporate the Trustees of Benjamin's Church,
in Carroll County.

1837.

WHEREAS, application has been made to this Gener-
al Assembly, for an act of incorporation in behalf of
the Trustees of Benjamin's Church, in Carroll county,
which may enable them to manage with convenience
their temporal concerns.

Preamble;

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That Jacob Shafer, John Henry Hoppe,
Michael Sullivan, Joseph Orndorf, David Leister, An-
drew Reese, David Crowel, and George Evenly, the
present Trustees of said congregation, and their suc-
cessors, to be elected agreeably to the rules and regu-

lations of said church, shall be, and hereby are created
to be a body politic and corporate, by the name, style,
and title of the Trustees of Benjamin's Church, in
Carroll county, and by the same name shall have perpetu-
al succession, and shall be able to sue and be sued, im-
plead and be impleaded, in any court of law or equity
in this State, and to make and to have a common seal,
and the same to break, alter or renew, at their pleasure,

and also to ordain and establish such by-laws and or-
dinances as shall appear necessary for regulating the
temporal concerns of the said church, and for promot-
ing literature within the same, not being repugnant to
this act or the laws of this State.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That all the lands and
tenements heretofore conveyed by a certain John Ben-
ter, to Daniel Frock, John Growl, George Meyerley,
and John Defendaugh, by a deed bearing date the
thirteenth day of April, eighteen hundred and nine, to
them, their heirs and assigns, for the entire use and
benefit of said church, and also all the lands and tene-
ments heretofore conveyed, by a certain Peter Young,
to Frederick Criessman, Daniel Zacharias, John Pain-
ter, and Lawranco Formwalt, and their successors in
