8 JANUARY 1694/5 - Addendum

 

152  ~  several decisions of the House of Burgesses from October 1694 are read in Court and entered in the record (See Transcription):

   - Precept concerning use of taxes for establishment church in Anne Arundel County; requires 40 lbs/tbco per poll from the levy be spent for construction of  Church and care of vestryman; signed 17 October 1694 by C. Lomax, Clerk of the Assembly

  - Vote that all Counties not already collecting 40 lbs/tbco per poll for support of Ministers and churches commence following year with levy of 80 lbs per poll; signed by C. Lomax, Clerk of the Assembly; endorsed with approval of the Council by Henry Denton, Clerk of the Council.

  - Letter from Governor Francis Nicholson dated 10 November 1694 enjoining all to heed and obey the preceding notes and orders, as well as the order issued by the Council on 31 July; also commands that “all the Penal Laws be read pursuant to the late Act of Assembly” and be put into execution.

 

153 ~  Deed from Nicholas Fountaine to Margarett Bennett dated 30 November 1693 conveying ownership of a cow and calf; witnesses Marsy Fountaine, Thomas Toleman; assignment of same by Bennett to her son James Davis on 1 December and to Bernard Ward on 31 December; witnesses Thomas Toleman, John Green.

 

154 ~  Letter from Governor Francis Nicholson dated 16 October 1694 appointing the Commissioners of Somerset: Francis Jenckins, John Winder, William Whittington, James Dashiell, Roger Woolford, Thomas Dixon, Matthew Scarbrough, John Bozman, George Layfield, Thomas Newbold, Samuel Hopkins, James Round, Edmund Howard, Thomas Jones, John King, Stephen Horsey, Arnold Elzey; also re-appoints John West as Clerk of Somerset.

 

155 ~  Letter from Governor Nicholson dated 16 October 1694 appointing Francis Jenckins and John Winder to administer the oaths required by Act of Parliament, in place of the Acts of Allegiance and Supremacy, and also the oath for Justices of the Peace, to each other, then to other Justices and Commissioners.
