SEPTEMBER COURT 1693

 

31 ~  12 September 1693, 2nd Tuesday, Court convenes; Commissioners present: Francis Jenckins, Roger Woolford, James Round, Thomas Jones, Capt. John King, Stephen Horsey, Arnold Elzey.

 

31 ~  Warrant dated 15 August 1693 for arrest of Thomas Camplin signed by David Brown and Roger Woolford and sent to Sheriff Ephraim Wilson via John Holland and William Alexander, Jun.; to answer charges by the great men of the Indian Town of Tondotank that he was accessory to murder of an Indian named Doctor James.

 

31 ~  Thomas Camplin appears in Court; warrant for his arrest read; Court orders he be held for trial the following day to answer charges by Tondotank Indians; Sheriff to summon John Holland, Alexander Spence, William Robinson, David Griffis, to give evidence; also to summon a  grand Jury.

 

31 ~  Case against Elizabeth Hines, spinster, for fornication and bearing a bastard; she confesses and identifies Patrick Mcdonnell as the father; Court orders he appear in November Court; Hines fined 25 days work for County and post security; Hines make bond for £10, securities William Brittingham, Thomas Wilson.

 

32 ~  Petition of Thomas Roberts requests payment for 12 days in County’s service delivering documents to John Darby at “Dellaware” in New Castle County, Territories of Pennsylvania; Court orders he be paid 440 lbs/tbco. (See case of  Ellis Coleman for alleged murder of Robert Darby; 1692-93 Judicials, f.230-4)

 

32 ~   Proclamations preroguing the Assembly read in Court (not recorded); Assembly to meet 20th September 1693.

 

32 ~  Petition of Mary Prise, widow, asks Justices to intervene against her two sons-in-law, Cornelius and Thomas Ward; claims she is sole legatee of her husband’s estate but they are taking over her land and threatening to evict her; Court orders that Wards appear at November Court.

 

33 ~  John Broughton. Pltf. vs. Francis White, deft. for 950 lbs/tbco; Peter Dent, attorney for Broughton, presents note signed by White 14 December 1692; witnesses George Hoy, Samuel Marchment; White admits debt; ordered to pay with costs.

 

33 ~  Thomas White, sawyer, Pltf. vs. Francis White, Deft. for debt of 1000 lbs/tbco; Peter Dent, attorney for Broughton, presents note signed by White 2 January 1692, witness James Henderson; White admits debt; ordered to pay with costs.
