3 ~ Second Tuesday, 8 August 1693, Court convenes; Commissioners present: Francis Jenckins, Capt. William Whittington, Thomas Newbold, Samuel Hopkins, Roger Woolford, Thomas Jones, Capt. John King, Stephen Horsey, Arnold Elzey.
3 ~ Commission appointing Ephraim Wilson as Sheriff of Somerset County, signed 15 July 1693 by Governor Copley.
3 ~ Proclamation by Governor Copley preroguing the Assembly from 20 July until 24 August, dated 3 July 1693; Sheriffs of respective counties are to publish the announcement.
3 ~ Isaac Boston brings servant boy John Ervin before Court; judged to be taxable and put on Pocomoke taxlist.
3 ~ Constables submit their lists of taxables for each Hundred.
3 ~ Petitions of Edward Johnson and John Moore to be tax free; not granted
4 ~ Petition of Thomas Cox to have fine for non-appearance as Juror in previous Court remitted; absence due to sickness of his child; granted.
4 ~ Petition of Lewes Beard to have fine for non-appearance as Juror at previous court remitted; pleads ignorance of summons; granted, with fees.
4 ~ Petition of Daniel Dennehoe that his negro, being blind and a burden on him, not be taxed; not granted.
4 ~ Court notified of two individual not included as taxables: John Colson at William Harris’s, now in country 13 years and declared 5 year old by his mother on arrival; an Indian working for John Holland; Court orders that Harris and Colson appear next Court.
4 ~ Janet Willis assumes taxes for Richard Dibels for current year.
4 ~ David Shoshe added as taxable in Pocomoke Hundred.
4 ~ Robert Miller added as taxable in Monokin Hundred.
4 ~ Certification from Samuel Sandford, Sheriff of Accomac County VA, that Richard Green, currier, and William, son of James Tayler, Sen. are listed as taxables in Accomac; dated 4 August 1693.
5 ~ Note of James Round dated 2 August 1693 that John Chancelor, aged 64, was discharged two years ago from paying taxes and was an object of charity; Court rules that he should continue as a tythable.
5 ~ Petition of Martin Curtis that Capt. William Whittington, “relict” of Capt John Osbourne, deceased, be ordered to pay him 633 lbs/tbco owed him by Osbourne; no ruling by Court, “Whittington demured to petitioner”.
5 ~ Petition of George Noble to have charges levied against him in last court remitted; says that he only provided testimony in case of Samuel Worthington (Under Sheriff) and should not be made to pay in the Sheriff’s books that he was not paid to keep; not granted.
5 ~ Joy Hobbs ordered to appear following day to answer concerning his list of tythables for Mony Hundred.
5 ~ Petition of William Scott that Thomas Dixon, Administrator of Robert Dukes, be ordered to pay 530 lbs/tbco owed him by Dukes; Dixon not present, no action taken.
5 ~ Petition of Samuel Worthington to be admitted as an attorney; granted; clerk to be given 50 lbs/tbco for the attorney’s license.
6 ~ Robert Pirrie brings Sarah Robinson, orphan daughter of John Robinson before Court with William Tompkins, administrator for estate of Robinson; Sarah apprenticed to Pirrie; judged to be age 6.
6 ~ William Tompkins brings Robert Robinson, orphan son of John Robinson, before Court; Robert apprenticed to Tompkins; judged to be age 11.
6 ~ William Poynter brings Rebeccah Robinson, orphan daughter of John Robinson, before Court; Rebeccah apprenticed to Poynter; judged to be age 9.
6 ~ John Wale brings John Robinson, orphan son of John Robinson, before Court; John apprenticed to Wale; judged to be age 12.
6 ~ William Tompkins ordered to ensure that all John Robinson’s orphans receive the animals promised them in apprenticeship agreements, when due.
6 ~ Court adjourns for the day.
