SEPTEMBER COURT 1692
22 ~ 13 September 1692 Court convenes; Commissioners present: Francis Jenckins, James Dashiels, Roger Woolford, Thomas Newbold, Samuel Hopkins, George Layfield, Capt. John King, Stephen Horsey.
22-24 ~ Three important letters from Governor Copley to Somerset (and other counties) entered in record; all relate to the consolidation of power by the new Provincial Government following the Maryland Revolution.
22 ~ Letter from Governor Copley dated 9 August 1692 entered in record; appoints Francis Jenckins and Samuel Hopkins as Deputy Commissaries for Somerset County; to look after matters of probate, with right to collect fees as provided in Act of Assembly, provided that they "transmit an account of the proceedings into my Office for Probatt of Wills etc, at the City of St Maries to be duely registered & entered on record according to form". 23 ~ Letter from Governor Copley dated 9 August 1692 entered in record; the Governor directs that all bonds and recognizances be submitted to the County Clerk for consolidation, review and transmittal to Annapolis. (See Transcription)
24 ~ Letter from Governor Copley dated 8 August 1692, entered in record; the Governor strictly commands that all public arms be turned in to the principal military officer of the County. (See Transcription)
24 ~ Commission and Dedimus produced in Court, but Justices are said to have already complied with it.
24 ~ Laws are read in Court.
24 ~ Capt. John Winder ordered to appear in court at eight in the morning to comply with the Commission and Dedimus.
24 ~ Comfort Trubshaw, daughter of John Trubshaw, deceased, apprenticed to Dennis Ohigerty; to serve until sixteen.
24 ~ Court adjourns for the day.
