for Frederick County, shall be fined for each and every offense
not less than One Hundred Dollars ($100. 00) and costs, and
shall be confined in the County Jail until both fine and costs
are paid, or be confined in the County Jail for a period of six
months, or be both confined and imprisoned, as herein pro-
vided, at the discretion of the Court or Justice of the Peace
having jurisdiction, and hearing said cases.

The Qualifications, Powers and Duties of Mayor.

SEC. 5. The inhabitants of the Town of Brunswick quali-
fied to vote at any Municipal election held therein shall on
the first day in August, 1916, and on the same day and month
in every second year thereafter, as hereinbefore provided, elect
by ballot a person of known integrity, experience and sound
judgment, at least thirty years of age, a citizen of the United
States and for not less than two years next preceding the elec-
tion a resident of said town and assessed with property in said
town to the amount of $500. 00 and who has paid taxes thereon
for two years preceding his election, to be Mayor of the Town
of Brunswick.

In case of vacancy in the office of Mayor, by death, resigna-
tion or permanent disqualification, the Mayor Pro tem. shall
discharge the duties of the Mayor until his successor is elected
and qualified. In case of a vacancy in the office of Mayor or
Councilman by death, resignation, or permanent disqualifica-
tion the Council shall call a special election to fill such vacancy,
said election to be held within sixty days after such vacancy
occurs.

In the case of sickness or necessary absence of the Mayor,
the Mayor pro tem. shall be ex officio Mayor of the town of
Brunswick during the continuance of said sickness or necessary
absence.

The term of the Mayor shall commence on the first Tuesday
in September succeeding his election and continue for two
years, and until his successor shall be elected and qualified.

The Mayor by virtue of his office shall be the Chief Execu-
tive Officer of the town. He shall see that the ordinances are
duly and faithfully executed and observed. He shall exercise
a general supervision over the various Municipal activities
and shall report to the Council the conditions of Municipal
affairs. It shall be his duty to make such suggestions as are
proper for the wise, prudent and economical government and
management of the town. The Mayor shall preside at all
