Sub-Section C. The term "slope" means an incline way
or opening used for the same purpose as a shaft.

Sub-Section D. The term "operator" means any firm, cor-
poration, or individual operating any coal mine or part thereof.

Sub-Section E. The term "superintendent" means the per-
son who shall have, on behalf of the operator, immediate su-
pervision of one or more mines.

Sub-Section F. The provisions of this Act shall not apply
to any mine employing less than ten persons in any one period
of twenty-four hours.

Sub-Section G. It shall be the duty of the Mine Inspector
to make as to the clay or fire-clay mines in Allegany or Gar-
rett counties the examination and reports required as to coal
mines under Section 197 of Article 1 and Section 151 of Arti-
cle 12 of this Act, and to make recommendations to the State
Board of Labor and Statistics as to the legislation requisite to
protect life and health in such clay mines.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect from and after the first day of June, in the year one
thousand nine hundred and sixteen.

CHAPTER 411.

Air ACT to regulate the manufacture, purchase, sale or dealing
in, medicinal, pharmaceutical, scientific, sacramental, me-
chanical, culinary or toilet preparations.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That it shall not be unlawful to manufacture, buy,
sell or deal in, any medicinal, pharmaceutical, scientific, sacra-
mental, mechanical, culinary ox toilet preparations which may
contain such percentage of alcohol as may be necessary to hold
the constituents in solution, preserve the preparation or keep it
from freezing, provided, however, that no such preparation
shall be manufactured, bought, sold or dealt in, for use as a
beverage or intoxicant.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That any and all laws in
conflict herewith are, to the extent of such conflict, hereby re-
