Section, 59. Any commissioned officer assigned to special
duty by the Governor, or by his authority, shall be paid per
diem pay for the time actually employed, and his necessary
traveling expenses when such payment is authorized by the
Governor. Judge Advocates shall be paid for services in bring-
ing any suits provided for in this Article, and for services in
actions or proceedings by habeas corpus, certiorari or other-
wise, such compensation as shall be approved by the Governor.
All staff officers shall be paid per diem pay for special services
ordered by competent authority, with the approval of the Gov-
ernor. Enlisted men on duty under orders of the Governor,
but not at the time serving with troops, shall receive per diem
pay, their actual traveling expenses and subsistence.

Section 60. Whenever the Maryland National Guard or
any portion thereof shall be ordered out for duty or service
in connection with the regular troops and forces of the United
States Army or Navy, or for any other service different from
that provided for in this Article, for which the pay allowed
shall be less than the pay provided for in this Article, then the
organizations so ordered out and performing such service shall,
in addition to the pay received, be paid the difference between
the pay received for such service and the pay provided for in
this Article, out of the militia funds of the State, so that they
may thus be paid the full amount provided for in this Article.
The provisions of this Article not to apply when the troops are
regularly mustered into service of the United States.

Section 61. Each officer and enlisted man ordered for duty
by the Governor or under his authority by the commanding
officer of the Brigade or the Naval Brigade, shall receive the
pay herein specified for every day actually on duty. Officers,
according to their rank, shall be entitled to pay at the same
rate per diem that officers of like rank receive in the service of
the United States, including longevity pay. Enlisted men
shall be paid the following rates per day: Non-commissioned
staff officers, first sergeants and company quartermaster ser-
geants, two dollars; sergeants, one dollar and seventy-five cents;
corporals, cooks and farriers, one dollar and fifty cents; mu-
sicians and private, one dollar and twenty-five cents; enlisted
men of the Naval Brigade, one dollar and twenty-five cents,
except the chief and petty officers, who shall be paid as follows:
Chief. petty officers, two dollars and twenty-five cents; first-
class petty officers, two dollars; second-class petty officers, one
dollar and seventy-five cents; and third-class petty officers,
