and such other deputies and the payment of such salaries
and such expenses as may be necessary to the conduct of his
office and also to provide for the payment of additional com-
pensation to said Sheriff from the date of his incumbency
in the year 1913.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, Pursuant to the authority contained in an amendment to
the Constitution of Maryland adopted at the General Election
held in the year 1914, that the salary or compensation of the
Sheriff of Baltimore City beginning with the fiscal year com-
mencing in the month of December 1915 shall be Six Thousand
Dollars per year and the said Sheriff shall have power, subject
to the control and with the consent of the Comptroller of the
State, to appoint a chief deputy and such other deputies and
pay such salaries and such expenses as may be necessary for
the conduct of his office; all such salaries and such expenses
to be paid out of the fees and receipts of the said Sheriff's office
as has heretofore been practiced.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, Pursuant to the authority
contained in the aforesaid amendment to the Constitution of
Maryland that the Sheriff of Baltimore City who was elected
in the year 1913, be and he is hereby authorized and empowered
to retain from the fees and receipts of said office of Sheriff now
in his hands or that may hereafter, come into his hands, the
sum of Six Thousand Dollars, so that the salary or compensa-
tion of said Sheriff who held said office during the term begin-
ning in December 1913 shall have been for said term the sum
of Six Thousand Dollars per year.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1916.

CHAPTER 254.

AN ACT to amend Article 23 of the Annotated Code of Public
Civil Laws of Maryland (legalized by Chapter 21 of the
Acts of the General Assembly of Maryland of 1912), title
"Corporations, " sub-title "Insurance Companies, " by add-
ing thereto four new and additional Sections to be designated
and known as Section 164A, Section 164B, Section 164C
