twelve hundred dollars each per annum, and one officer who
shall act as inspector of street trades, at a salary not exceeding
twelve hundred dollars per annum, to carry out the provisions
of this act; they shall also be allowed their actual expenses
when away from the City of Baltimore on the business of
their office; they shall be attached to and be part of the Mary-
land Bureau of Statistics and Information, and be subject
to the order of the Chief of said bureau, whose duty it shall
be to see that the provisions of this act are enforced; and
said, chief of said bureau is further empowered to designate
one or more regular physicians and other attendants who shall
be attached to and be part of the Maryland Bureau of Sta-
tistics and Information, and be subject to the order of the
chief of said bureau, and who shall have such duties and re-
ceive such compensation as shall be determined upon by said
chief provided, however, that the total compensation of all
physicians and attendants so employed by said chief of the
Maryland Bureau of Statistics and Information shall not ex-
ceed twenty-five hundred dollars per annum.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That a new section of
said Article 100 of the Code of Public General Laws of Mary-
land, title "Work, Hours of, in Factories, " sub-title "Employ-
ment of Minors, " to come in immediately after section 22 of
said Article and to be known as section 22A, be and the same
is hereby enacted to read as follows:
22A. No child under the age of sixteen years shall be em-
ployed, permitted or suffered to work in, about or in connec-
tion with any establishment or occupation mentioned in sec-
tion 4 of this act (1) for more than six days in any one week,
(2) nor more than forty-eight hours in any week, (3) nor more
than eight hours in any one day; or (4) before the hour of
seven o'clock in the morning or after the hour of seven o'clock
in the evening. The presence of such child in any establish-
ment during working hours shall be prima facie evidence of its
employment therein.
SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That all acts or parts of
acts inconsistent herewith be and the same are hereby repealed
in so far as they are inconsistent herewith.
SEC. 4. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect from the first day of June, 1916.
