SECTION _ 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the Clerk of the Circuit. Court for Washing-

ton County be and he is hereby authorized to make a general
index of the Land Records and the Judgment Records of said
Washington County from the beginning of said Land Records
and Judgment Records in the year 1777 in said county to the
year 1916, according to the most approved system now in
vogue, of which the said Clerk shall be the sole judge.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That the Clerk of the
Circuit Court for Washington County, be and he is hereby
authorized to let on contract the execution of the work of in
dexing as aforementioned, as a whole, or employ any compe-
tent person or persons to do said work, subject to the approval
of the resident Judge of the Circuit Court for Washington
County; provided that the said work shall be done expedi-
tiously and the plan adopted be chosen with that end in view.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That the County Com-
missioners of Washington County be and they are hereby au-
thorized and required to levy upon the assessable property of
said County, in the usual manner by law provided, a sum
sufficient to pay for said indexing, unless the receipts of said
Clerk's office from fees for services rendered therein over a
period not longer than three (3) successive years shall be
sufficient to pay for said indexing, after all the office expenses
and salary of said Clerk shall be paid, in which event said
work of indexing said Land Records and said Judgment Rec-
ords shall be paid for out of the fees so remaining for such
period; any deficit created thereby to be provided for by levy
of the County Commissioners as herein provided.

AN ACT to amend Article 10 of the Code of Public Local Laws
of Maryland, title "Dorchester County, " sub-title "County
Commissioners, County Treasurer and Collectors, " as en-
acted by the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland, 1888,
by adding new sections thereto to follow Section 105, and
to be designated Sections 105 A, 105B, 105C, 105D, 105E,
105F, 105G, 105H, 105 I, 105J, 105 K and 105L, for the
