JOINT RESOLUTIONS. 1681
No. 9.
Requesting the Senators and Representatives in Congress from
Maryland to oppose the "Borland Amendment" to the Fed-
eral Appropriation Bill.
WHEREAS, The proposition is now on foot to add an extra
hour to the Government employees in Washington, District of
Columbia; and
WHEREAS, For the following reasons certain Counties of
Maryland will be affected by the adoption of said amendment:
First. —Because nearly five thousand said employees resid-
ing in the Counties of Maryland adjacent to the District of
Columbia will be compelled to remove or change their resi-
dence on account of the additional half-hour in the morning,
which renders a hardship upon said employees caused by the
necessary time it requires to reach said offices.
Second. —Because the change of domicile of so many citizens
in Maryland adjacent to said District would be detrimental to
the best business interests of the community, as well as social
conditions generally; therefore,
Resolved, By the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
Senators and Representatives in Congress from Maryland are
hereby requested to use all honorable means in their power to
defeat the "Borland Amendment" to said Federal Appropri-
ation Bill.
Resolved, further, That the Secretary of the Senate is di-
rected to send a copy of each of these resolutions, properly
certified, to the two United States Senators from Maryland,
and the Chief Clerk of the House is ordered to forward a copy
of these resolutions' to each of the six members of Congress, in
the House of Representatives from Maryland.
