EMERSON C. HARRINGTON, GOVERNOR. 1657

WHEREAS, The present route, by way of Elkton, is approxi-
mately one hundred and thirty miles, requiring over five hours
to make the trip with a crossing at Perryville and Havre de
Grace, costing One Dollar for bridge charges, beside the great
waste of time in making this trip; and

WHEREAS, Such a ferry would put the Counties of Queen
Anne, Talbot, Caroline, Dorchester, Somerset, Wicomico and
Worcester, with the Eastern Shore Counties of the State cf
Virginia, in daily touch with Baltimore City by automobile,
as well as making a short and easy run to the Ocean for the
citizens of Baltimore and Washington, and would greatly
develop the industries and convenience of the people of the
State of Maryland; therefore:

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the State Roads Commission be and they are hereby,
authorized and directed in their discretion to provide a suit-
able steamer or steamers to connect said Town of Claiborne
with the City of Annapolis or some adjoining suburb, such
steamer or steamers to have ample deck room for the transpor-
tation of passengers and automobiles and other vehicles, and to
provide wharf facilities at each terminal, and to make such
trips across the Bay as may be justified, and to charge such
rates therefor as may be established by the Public Service Com-
mission of Maryland.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That the sum of fifty
thousand dollars ($50, 000. 00) be and the same is hereby appro-
priated for the purpose of carrying out and making effective
the provisions of this Act; provided, however, that said sum
hereby appropriated shall not be available unless and until the
State Roads Commission shall in the exercise of their discretion
establish the ferry hereby authorized.

CHAPTER 700.

AN ACT to add a new section to the Baltimore City Charter,
to follow Section 164-B of the revised charter of 1915, and
to. be known as Section 164-C.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, - That a new Section be and the same is hereby added to
the Baltimore City Charter; to follow Section 164-B of the re-
