Monday in May next succeeding his election, and a resident of
the fourth ward, possessing the same qualifications as those
required of the Mayor, who shall serve for two years from the
second Monday in May next succeeding his election as council-
man from said ward. If any vacancy occurs in the office of
Councilmen, the Mayor, with the advice and consent of the re-
maining members of said Council, shall appoint a person to fill
such vacancy during the balance of the unexpired term. In
case of a vacancy in the office of Mayor a special election shall
be ordered by the Common Council to be held within thirty
days after publication of such order, for the purpose of electing
a person to fill such vacancy. No person shall be eligible as
Mayor or Councilman of said town unless he be the owner of
real estate in said town, in his own name, to the amount of five
hundred dollars ($500), and shall so remain during his term
of office, and his term of office shall terminate upon his re-
moval of residence from the town limits. Neither the Mayor
nor any of the Councilmen shall, during their term of office,
hold or be interested in any other office under the corporation,
or be a party, directly or indirectly, in any contract to which
the corporation is a party. The town Clerk shall appoint, in a
period of not less than thirty, and not more than forty days,
before the general town election, three days of registration, on
which days duly qualified voters shall register their names, ad-
dresses, and occupation, at such time and place as the town
Clerk may prescribe; provided, that on at least two of those
days, registration may be made between the hours of six and
eight o'clock P. M. Only such voters as are duly registered
shall be entitled to vote at any town election. Any person de-
siring to become a candidate for Mayor or Councilman shall,
at least ten days prior to said election, file with the town clerk
a certificate of nomination, accompanied by a petition, signed
by at least twenty duly qualified electors, requesting such can-
didacy; provided that the candidate for Councilman from each
ward shall secure a majority of said petitioners within the
limits of their respective wards.

A certificate in the following form shall be sufficient:
