operation of the ice-boat "Annapolis", the same to be paid to
the City Register of Baltimore City, to be by him deposited to
the credit of the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore City, to
be drawn upon for the purposes above mentioned only when
ordered by the Board of Estimates of Baltimore City.

SCHOOLS.

For the system of free public schools (white and colored)
in the several counties and in the City of Baltimore and
the several departments of activities thereof the sum of one
million seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars ($1, 750, -
000. ) or as much thereof as may be paid into the State
Treasury on account of the tax for public schools, and the
supplemental tax for public schools and governmental re-
quirements, such revenues being based absolutely upon the
receipts into the Treasury from such taxes, provided, how-
ever, that in the event the receipts from such taxes shall
exceed the sum of one million seven hundred and fifty thou-
sand dollars ($1, 750, 000. ) such excess shall remain in the
General Treasury to the end that the amount for distribu-
tion shall be one million seven hundred and fifty thousand
dollars ($1, 750, 000. ) and no more; the same to be appor-
tioned, distributed and expended according to law and in
the following proportions: For the expenses of the State
Board of Education and its members in the discharge of their
duties, the sum of three thousand five hundred dollars; for
the expenses of the State Department of Education, includ-
ing salaries of the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent,
other professional and clerical assistants, publications, trav-
elling and office expenses, the sum of twenty-five thousand
dollars; for colored industrial work as provided by law, the
sum of twenty-seven thousand dollars, or so much thereof as
may be necessary; for approved high schools as provided
by law, the sum of one hundred and forty thousand dollars,
or so much thereof as may be necessary; for retired teachers,
as provided by law, the sum of thirty-four thousand dollars,
or so much thereof as may be necessary; for the mainte-
nance of the Maryland State Normal School, including the
expenses of a summer session of six weeks, the sum of sixty
thousand dollars; for the maintenance of State Normal School
No. 2, at Frostburg, the "sum of ten thousand dollars; for
the maintenance of State Normal School No. 3, for colored
students, near Bowie, the sum of ten thousand dollars; for
