CHAPTER 671.
AN ACT to compensate George Edward Myers for the perma-
nent injuries sustained by him on the 22d day of October,
1915, while engaged in the performance and discharge of
the duties as the State Fire Marshal of the State of Mary-
land, and providing for a fair and just payment therefor
by the State of Maryland.
WHEREAS, George Edward Myers as the duly accredited
officer and agent of the State of Maryland, occupying the office
of State Fire Marshal of Maryland, was on the 22d day of
October, 1915, severely and permanently injured in the per-
formance and discharge of his duties as State Fire Marshal
aforesaid, was shot through the right eye, the bullet penetrat-
ing to the base of his skull, resulting in the total loss and de-
struction of said right eye, thereby impairing the earning
ability and capacity of the said George Edward Myers for
life, and
WHEREAS, It is right, just and equitable that the said
George Edward Myers should be to an extent compensated by
the State of Maryland for the said permanent injuries "sus-
tained by him, in the effective discharge of his duties as State
Fire Marshal, as aforesaid, that effected the breaking up of a
gang of conspirators engaged in the malicious and fraudulent
destruction of the property, and perhaps the lives of the citi-
zens of the State of Maryland; therefore
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the Treasurer, on the warrant of the Comptroller,
be and he is hereby authorized and directed to pay to the order
of George Edward Myers, the sum of Two Thousand Dollars
($2, 000).
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
on the first day of June, Nineteen Hundred and Sixteen.

CHAPTER 672.
AN ACT to appropriate a sum of money to refund Foster
Sudler for money paid into the Treasury of the State of
Maryland on account of the forfeiture of the bail of Howard
Hodges.
