CHAPTER 637.
AN ACT to add three new Sections to Article 27 of Bagby's
Annotated Code of Public General Laws of Maryland, en-
titled "Crimes and Punishments, " the same to be designated
and numbered 78-A, 78-B and 78-C, and to follow 78 of
said Article 27; the same being designed to make it a mis-
demeanor for any adult person of sufficient financial ability
to neglect or refuse to support his or her destitute parent or
parents; providing a penalty therefor; prescribing proce-
dure in cases under the Act; and authorizing any County
or municipality of the State of Maryland to recover from
the children or child, of sufficient financial ability to pay
therefor, the sum. or sums expended by such County or
municipality for the maintenance and support of any such
destitute parent or parents of such children or child.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That three new Sections be and the same are hereby added
to Article 27 of Bagby's Annotated Code of Public General
Laws of Maryland, entitled "Crimes and Punishments, " the
same to be designated and numbered 78-A, 78-B and 78-C, and
to follow 78 of said Article 27.
78-A. Any adult person, a resident of this State, having a
parent or parents within this State, such parent or parents
being destitute of means of subsistence and unable either by
reason of old age, infirmity or illness to support himself or
herself, who is possessed of or able to earn means sufficient to
provide such parent or parents with necessary shelter, food,
care and clothing, and neglects or refuses so to do, shall, upon
