exigencies of the town shall require it; provided, however, that
the term of appointment of such special policemen shall not
exceed a period of thirty days. The Fire Marshal and Assistant
Fire Marshals provided for by ordinance of the Mayor and
Council of Hagerstown, for the more effectual discharge of their
duties and the protection of property, shall during the time
of fires, have all the powers of a policeman of the Town of
Hagerstown, and said Fire Marshal and Assistant Fire Marshals
shall take the oath prescribed for policemen of said town and
shall serve without pay.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 555.
AN ACT to provide for the division of the Seventh Election Dis-
trict of Charles County, Maryland, into two Election Pre-
cincts, to be known as Precinct No. 1 and Precinct No. 2, re-
spectively.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the Board of Supervisors of Election of Charles-
County be and they are hereby directed immediately after the
passage of this Act, and before the first day of June, 1914, to
divide the said Election District of said County into two pre-
cincts, in such manner as in the judgment of the said Board of
Supervisors of Election will be most convenient to the greatest
number of voters in said District. They shall number one of
said precincts "One," and the other of said precincts "Two,"
and they shall make known the boundaries of the said precincts
by advertisement inserted in one or more newspapers of said
County once a week for two successive weeks before the first
day of July, 1914.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That immediately after the said
precincts One and Two shall be laid off and established, as
directed in the first Section of this Act, it shall be the duty of
the sai4 Board of Supervisors of Election to label one of the
original registries of the said original Seventh Election Dis-
trict "Original Registry First Election Precinct of the Seventh
Election District of Charles County," and to label the other
of said original registries "Original Registry Second Election
