SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 16 of Chapter 123 of the Acts of the Gen-
eral Assembly of Maryland of 1898, be and the same is hereby
repealed and the said Section 16 is hereby re-enacted with,
amendments so as to read as follows:
SEC. 16. The inhabitants of the City of Baltimore qualified
to vote for members of the House of Delegates shall, on the
Tuesday next after the first Monday in May, eighteen hundred
and ninety-nine, and on the same day and month in every
fourth year thereafter, elect by ballot a person of known in-
tegrity, experience and sound judgment, over twenty-five years,
of age, a citizen of the United States, and ten years a resident
of said City next preceding the election, and either assessed
with property in said City to the amount of two thousand dol-
lars, and who has paid taxes thereon for two years preceding
his election, or who has hitherto held elective executive or legis-
lative office under the Government of the United States or the
State of Maryland, or the City of Baltimore, to be Mayor of the
City of Baltimore; but the Mayor chosen at the first election
under this Section shall not enter upon the discharge of the
duties of the office until the expiration of the term of which the
present Mayor was elected; unless the said office of Mayor shall
become vacant by death, resignation, removal from the State or
other disqualification of the present Mayor.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 513.
AN ACT authorizing the use of Voting Machines in Primary and
General Elections.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the Election Supervisors of Baltimore City and the
Election Supervisors of the respective counties, are hereby au-
thorized and empowered to use voting machines in primary and
general elections under such rules and regulations as said Elec-
tion Supervisors may deem advisable or necessary. Any im-
proper, illegal or fraudulent act on the part of election officials
or voters, to be subject to the same fines and penalties as are now
provided in the general election, laws of this State so far as the
same may be made to apply to elections when Voting Machines
are used.
