of County Commissioners for repairs and renewals and erec-
tion of bridges and culverts, and the distribution of the same
by election districts.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the following new Section be and is hereby added to
Article 16 of the Code of Public Local Laws of the State of
Maryland, title '' Montgomery County,'' sub-title '' Roads,'' said
new Section to come in after Section 167-A, as enacted by
Chapter 108 of the Acts of the General Assembly of 1912 and
to read as follows:
SEC. 167-B. The Board of County Commissioners of Mont-
gomery County shall annually make a general levy of an amount
sufficient, with such other funds applicable thereto, for the re-
pair and reconstruction of bridges and culverts and approaches
thereto. Said funds to be apportioned to the several election
districts according to the road mileage in said districts after
provision has been made for new bridges as hereinafter pro-
vided.
On or before the first day of May in each year the County
Commissioners shall make a schedule of all bridges that are to
be renewed or new bridges in new locations to be built in the
ensuing year, and, whenever said Board shall determine that
there is a general demand on the part of the citizens and tax-
payers of any election district or districts for a new bridge in
a new location in such district, the Board shall set aside from
the said general fund for repairs and renewals, one-half of the
cost thereof and levy upon the taxable property of such dis-
trict or districts, in the manner as is provided for special road
improvements, a sufficient amount to provide for one-half the
cost of said new bridge or culvert. This provision to apply
only to new bridges or culverts exceeding twelve square feet
of area of water way, all other culverts in the improvement of
any road to be paid for out of the general fund, unless other-
wise provided for.
SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.
