town taxes levied by said Town Commissioners in said town
of Centreville or payable to said Town Commissioners; said
Town Clerk shall, before entering upon the duties of his office,
before one of said Commissioners, take and subscribe the follow-
ing oath: "I................... in the presence of Almighty
God, do solemnly promise and declare that, as Clerk to the
Town Commissioners of Centreville, I will honestly and faith-
fully, to the best of my skill and judgment, execute the duties
of the office of Town Clerk without favor, affection or preju-
dice." And the said Town Clerk shall also before entering
upon the duties of this office execute and deliver to the State
of Maryland a bond with a guarantee or surety company of this
State as surety, to be approved by the said Town Commissioners
of Centreville, in such sums as said Commissioners may require,
conditioned for the faithful and proper collection of all taxes
levied and placed in his hands for collection for said town of
Centreville, and for the paying over to said Commissioners
forthwith all moneys so collected, and the faithful performance
of all other duties devolving on him, and said bonds to be filed
and recorded in the office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court for
Queen Anne's County.
59-A. It shall be the duty of said Town Clerk each year dur-
ing his term of office, as soon as the annual levy is made, to give
public notice thereof by advertisement, inserted in two news-
papers printed and published in said town, if there be that
number printed and published, if not, then said advertisement
shall be printed in one such newspaper only, and the taxes so
levied shall be due and payable on the first day of June of the
rear in which they are so levied. It shall be the duty of the
said Town Clerk to sit in the office of the said Town Commis-
sioners or such other place as Town Commissioners may desig-
nate for the purpose of receiving taxes, one day before the fifth
day of June and one day in each successive week until the first
day of July, and at such hours upon said days and dates as
Town Commissioners may designate, in each and every year;
due notice of each of said sittings shall be given by advertise-
ment as hereinbefore provided, and he shall report to the Town
Commissioners, at their first meeting after each of said sittings,
the amount of taxes collected by him up to the date of such re-
port, and he shall deposit within three days after each of said
sittings in the two National Banks in Centreville all taxes re-
ceived or collected by him up to the date of such deposits, said
deposits to be made in the name of "The Town Commissioners
of Centreville;'' and the money so deposited shall only be drawn
