($1,000.00) in any one year, and providing penalties, one-half
of which to be paid the informer, for the removal, injury or
defacement of such or other sign-posts, and to amend Article
91 of the Code of Public General Laws of Maryland of 1904,
title '' Survey and State Surveyor,'' sub-title '' Public Roads,''
by adding four new Sections thereto to follow immediately
after Section 50, and to be designated Sections 50-a, 50-b, 50-c
and 50-d.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Article 91 of the Code of Public General Laws of
Maryland of 1904, title "Survey and State Surveyor," sub-
title "Public Roads," be amended by adding four new Sections
thereto, to follow immediately after Section 50, and to be desig-
nated Sections 50-a, 50-b, 50-c and 50-d, to read as follows:
SEC. 50-a. The Commissioner of Motor Vehicles shall erect
and maintain, out of the receipts of his office, at or near the
boundary line of important thoroughfares leading out of all
cities, towns or villages of this State, and at places of inter-
section of. important highways outside of cities, towns or villages,
guide-posts for the direction of travelers, which shall be a post
of metal or wood, upon or near the upper end of which shall be
placed a sign of metal or wood, bearing in the centre at the top
the Coat of Arms of the State of Maryland; on the left hand
side thereof in small letters shall be the words, "This sign is
the property of the State of Maryland,'' and on the right hand
side thereof in similar letters the words, "$25 Fine, one-half to
informer, for removal or injury of this sign," and below shall
be plainly marked the name of the next town or place, and of
such other towns and places of note as the Commissioner of
Motor Vehicles may think proper, to which each road leads, the
number of miles to the same, and the figure of an arrow pointing
toward such town or place. The ground color of said sign shall
be blue and the Coat of Arms and lettering shall be white.
SEC. 50-b. The Commissioner of Motor Vehicles shall erect
and maintain out of the receipts of his office at any dangerous
place outside of the limits of any city, town or village of this
State, which in his judgment seems proper, a sign which warns
of danger to travelers which shall be a post of metal or wood not
more than four (4) feet in height, upon or near the upper
end of which shall be placed a sign of metal or wood, bearing
in the centre at the top the Coat of Arms of the State of Mary-
land ; on the left hand side thereof in small letters shall be the
