PHILLIPS LEE GOLDSBOROUGH, GOVERNOR. 365

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the following Sections of Article 22, title "Washing-
ton County," sub-title "Hagerstown," of the Code^of Public
Local Laws of Maryland of 1888, as legalized by Chapter 74 of
the Acts of the General Assembly of Maryland of 1888, to wit:
Section 154, Section 155, and Section 194 as amended by Chap-
ter 386 of the Acts of 1900, be, and the same are hereby repealed
and re-enacted with'amendments so as to read as follows:

SEC. 154. The taxable limits of the City of Hagerstown are
declared to be as follows: Beginning at a stone in the north
marginal line of the County Road leading from the Hagerstown-
Leitensburg Turnpike to Fiddlersburg, said stake being 1,850
feet east of the east marginal line of said Turnpike, and run-
ning thence, in a northwesternly direction, with the same bear-
ing as that of the aforesaid north marginal line of the said
County Road 11,500 feet, thence, at right angles to the first line;
and running in a southwesternly direction, 16,000 feet, thence
at right angles to the second line and running in a southeasternly
direction 11,500 feet, thence, at right angles to the third line,
and running in a northeasternly direction 16,000 feet to the
point of beginning. Provided, however, that for developmental,
drainage, sewerage, sanitary and police purposes the Mayor and
Council of Hagerstown shall have and exercise full power
and control for a distance of one mile in every direction fromi
said corporate limits.

SEC. 155. The said City is divided into five wards, the bound-
aries and limits of which are defined to be as follows:

For Ward Number One: Commencing in the center of the
Public Square, and running with the middle of Washington
otreet westwardly, two hundred and seventy-six feet; thence
southwardly, through the middle of an alley, two hundred and
seventy-six feet; thence westwardly, along the middle of an alley
to the middle of Prospect Street; thence southwardly thirty-
seven feet; thence westwardly, through the middle of an alley,
to the middle of Walnut Street; thence along the middle of
Walnut Street, northeastwardly, to the middle of West Wash-
ington Street; thence along the middle of West Washington
Street and West Washington Street Extended to the Western
boundary of the city; thence northwardly with the western,
boundary of the city to the middle of Franklin Street extended;
thence eastwardly, with the middle of Franklin Street, to the
middle of Winter Street, thence southwardly, along the middle
of Winter Street, to the middle of an alley opposite the Winter
