CHAPTER 219.
AN ACT to authorize and empower the County Commissioners
of Wicomico County to erect and maintain two draw bridges
over the South Prong of the Wicomico River, in the Town of
Salisbury, one where Camden Street crosses said prong, the
other where Division Street crosses said prong, and to erect
and maintain one draw bridge over the Wetipquin Creek at
the point where the ferry is now operated across said creek
in Wicomico County.
WHEREAS, The War Department of the United States of
America, has ordered the County Commissioners of Wicomico
County, to remove the obstructions on South Prong of the Wi-
comico River at Salisbury at points where Camden Street crosses
said prong and Division Street crosses said prong, so as to leave
at least forty feet of said river clear for navigation—by October
28th, 1914, and bridges are necessary to said two points to ac-
commodate the public travel; and
WHEREAS, The present means of conveyance across Wetipquin
Creek in Wicomico County by ferry is antequated, dangerous,
and inconvenient, and inadequate for the present volume of
traffic across said stream; therefore,
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the County Commissioners of Wicomico County, be
and they are hereby authorized and empowered to erect and
maintain two draw bridges, in Salisbury, over the South Prong
of the Wicomico River, one at a point where said prong is
crossed by Camden Street, the other where said prong is crossed
by Division Street, with draws in each of said bridges of suffi-
cient size to leave, at least, forty feet of said river clear for
navigation, and to erect and maintain one draw bridge over
Wetipquin Creek at the point where the ferry is now operated
across said creek in Wicomico County.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That the County Com-
missioners of Wicomico County, be and they are hereby author-
ized and empowered to advertise in such newspapers as they
deem best for bids, to erect such bridges as may be necessary,
to carry out the requirements of this Act. Said bridges may be
either pivot or lift—bids to be accompanied by plans and speci-
fications. The said Commissioners to have the right to reject
any or all bids received by them. In case all bids are rejected
said County Commissioners may contract without further ad-
vertising for erection of said bridges.
