Maryland, title "Washington County," sub-title "Boonsbor-
ough, '' and to re-enact the same with amendments.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 41 and Section 48 of Article 22 of the
Public Local Laws of Maryland, title "Washington County,"
sub-title '' Boonsborough,'' be and the same are hereby repealed
and re-enacted with amendments so as to read as follows:

SEC. 41. The Burgess, by virtue of his office, shall preside
at all meetings of the Council, and in case of a tie, except in
the passage of ordinances, shall have the deciding vote. He
shall see that the ordinances of the town are faithfully executed,
and shall report to the Council of its first meeting after such
annual meeting after each annual election the condition of mu-
nicipal affairs; he shall have the power of vetoing any ordi-
nance as hereinafter provided in Section 56-A. The Burgess shall
issue all licenses provided by ordinance of the Burgess and
Council, and pay over the same to the Treasurer, at such time
as may be provided by ordinance of the Burgess and Council,
and for his services shall receive an annual salary of not ex-
ceeding Fifty Dollars, and no other fee or compensation what
ever, said annual salary of not exceeding Fifty Dollars to relate
to and be applicable to the Burgess elected on the Second Mon-
day of May, Nineteen Hundred and Thirteen, who shall re-
ceive for his services said annual salary of not exceeding Fifty
Dollars.

SEC. 48. The clerk shall keep careful and accurate minutes
of the proceedings of the Council and record all ordinances
passed, in a book to be kept exclusively for that purpose, called
the ordinance book; keep all records, papers and documents
of the town in safe custody. He shall file all accounts
and claims presented against the town, and whenever any ac-
count is approved and passed by the Burgess and Coun-
cil he shall make a record of the same in a book to be kept
for that purpose. He shall perform such other duties as are
imposed upon him by law, ordinance or order of the Burgess
and Council. He shall be allowed a sum not exceeding Twenty
Dollars a year as compensation for his services and shall not
receive any other fee or compensation whatever; said compen-
sation to relate to and be applicable to the clerk duly appointed
since the second Monday of May, Nineteen Hundred and Thir-
teen, and now in the performance of his duties, who shall re-
ceive said compensation not exceeding Twenty Dollars a year.
