1742 LAWS OP MARYLAND.

after such reasonable notice as it may prescribe. To determine
the character of the foundation to be used under and around
the railway ties, and, in any case where a street is being paved
by the Paving Commission or other public agency and the char-
acter of the foundation is not determined by ordinance, the
same shall be determined by the Paving Commission or other
public agency doing such paving, and full power to do so is
hereby given. It shall be the duty of every railroad or street
railway corporation occupying with its tracks any portion of
the public highways of Baltimore City to put in the character
of foundation determined upon in pursuance of this provision.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.

Approved April 16th, 1914.

CHAPTER 860.

AN ACT to authorize the apointment of women as Notaries Pub-
lic for Washington County and to limit the number of said
women notaries public to five.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That women, in all other respects qualified, shall be eligible
as notaries public in Washington County.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That said number of
women notaries public shall at no time exceed five in number.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.

Approved April 21st, 1914.

CHAPTER 861.

AN ACT to authorize, direct and require the Board of County
Commissioners of Baltimore County, to make a special levy of
not more than twenty cents on each one hundred dollars, of the
assessable property in the village of Towson, in Baltimore
County, for the purpose of laying sidewalks, curbs and gut-
ters, and other improvements in said village, if twenty-five or
more persons owning taxable property in said village shall
petition annually therefor, and defining the limits and bounds -,
of said village for the purposes of this Act.
