1666 LAWS OF MARYLAND.

such applicant was formally registered, showing the entries re-
lating to said person in such former registration, and showing
that the name of such person has been stricken from the dupli-
cate registries. of voters in the ward in which he was last be-
fore recorded as a qualified and registered voter; such certifi-
cate of previous registration shall be cancelled by the officers
of registration; who shall register such person anew; it shall
be the duty of said officers of registration on the last day of
their first sitting to send notices, one by mail and one to be
served by a policeman of the City of Hagerstown, to all per-
sons whose names have been stricken off at such sitting (other
than the names of those known to be dead) notifying them that
their names have been stricken off, the reason shall be re-
corded opposite such names in said duplicate registries, and
when a name is stricken off upon the oath of any person, the
name of such person shall be recorded opposite to the name
stricken off, at the end of each day's registry or revision of
registration, the register shall sign his name or initials immedi-
ately under the name last registered under each letter in each
of said duplicate registries, so that no new name can be added
without discovery; and should any of said officers of registra-
tion be unable to sit and register the qualified voters of their
respective wards on any day of their sittings, by reason of sick-
ness or other unavoidable cause he shall have the Board of
Election Supervisors appoint some suitable person in his stead
who shall act as substitute registration officer and shall per-
form all duties of said officer as fully as he the said first ap-
pointeen and he shall be caused to be sworn as other registration
officers are sworn, and shall receive therefor thirty cents per
hour.

SEC. 159-O. Said officers of registration shall within three
days after the expiration of their respective first sittings in the
year Nineteen Hundred and Fifteen and every second year
thereafter, make complete and publish two alphabetical lists,
one of which alphabetical lists shall comprise the names of
those persons whom said officers have stricken from the dupli-
cate registries of voters delivered to said respective officers by
said Clerk of the Court, and the other one of which alphabeti-
cal lists shall comprise the names of persons whom said res-
pective officers of registration have newly registered as quali-
fied voters in the respective wards of the City of Hagerstown,
at their said sitting; and also the said respective officers of
registration shall cause said respective lists to be published by
