158 LAWS OF MARYLAND.

SEC. 2. Be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect from
the date of its passage.

Approved March 20th, 1914.

CHAPTER 125.

AN ACT to add four new Sections to the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland, Article 4, title "City of Baltimore," sub-
title "Charter," three of said Sections to follow Section 175
and to be designated 175-A, 175-B and 175-C, and the fourth
to follow Section 176 and to be designated 176-A.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of .Mary-
land, That four new Sections are hereby added to the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland, Article 4, title "City of Balti-
more," sub-title "Charter;" three of said Sections to follow
Section 175, as the same was amended by the Act of 1912, Chap-
ter 32, and to be designated 175-A, 175-B and 175-C, and the
fourth to follow Section 176 and to be designated 176-A, said
four new Sections to read as follows:

175-A. In any ordinance providing for opening, widening,
extending, straightening or closing any public highway, the
Mayor and City Council may provide that the Commissioners
for Opening Streets shall assess upon the property benefited
thereby the entire cost of such opening, widening, extending,
straightening or closing, including the damages jpaid for any
property taken therefor and the expenses of the said Commis-
sioners and Court expenses, if any; the property so benefited
may be specified in the ordinance or left to be determined by
the Commissioners. In the event of the passage of such ordi-
nance, the Commissioners for Opening Streets in carrying out
the same shall apportion the entire expense of such opening,
widening, extending, straightening or closing among the various
properties benefited thereby. Nothing herein shall prevent any
property owner from showing on appeal the amount he is ac-
tually benefited.

175-B. The first meeting of the Commissioners to execute any
ordinance to open, extend, widen, straighten or close, in whole
or in part, any street, square, lane or alley shall be held within
four months after the passage of this Act, as to all such ordi-
nances heretofore passed and remaining wholly unexecuted, and
as to any ordinance hereafter passed within three months after
