PHILLIPS LEE GOLDSBOROUGH, GOVERNOR. 1519

CHAPTER 808.

AN ACT to vest in the State Roads Commission of Maryland the
power and authority on behalf of the State of Maryland to co-
operate and act with the Secretary of Agriculture of the
United States of America in the construction and maintenance
of rural post roads and to authorize the expenditure of sums
of money by said State Roads Commission of Maryland in the
prosecution of said work.

WHEREAS, A Bill has been passed by the House of Representa-
tives of the United States of America, providing that the United
States shall in certain cases aid the States and civil subdivisions
thereof, in the construction and maintenance of rural post roads;
and whereas under the provisions of said Bill certain powers are
vested in the Secretary of Agriculture of the United States of
America to be exercised by joint action with State officers hav-
ing lawful authority on that behalf.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That in the event of the passage of such Bill or any other
Bill providing for the construction of rural post roads with
funds wholly or partially to be supplied by the United States of
America, that the State Roads Commission of Maryland be and
the same is hereby vested with power and authority on behalf
of the State of Maryland to co-operate and act with the Secre-
tary of Agriculture of the United States of America in the con-
struction and maintenance of rural post roads as defined and
determined by said Bill or any other law of the United States of
America in reference to the subject matter.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the State Roads Commission of Maryland be,
and the same is authorized and empowered to expend in such
construction and maintenance of such rural post roads such
amounts of money, if any, as it may deem necessary to carry out
the provisions of said proposed law of the United States of
America out of any appropriations or loans heretofore or here-
after made by the State of Maryland for State or State aided
highways to be expended by or under the direction of the State
Roads Commission of Maryland, said amounts when expended
to be charged to the respective Counties in which such expendi-
tures are made in the same manner as if the expenditures were
made in the ordinary prosecution of the work of the State Roads
Commission of Maryland as now or hereafter provided by law.
Provided that the State Roads Commission shall first apportion
