1468 LAWS OF MARYLAND.

At the general election held on the first Tuesday after the
first Monday in November, 1917, and every four (4) years there-
after the legally qualified voters of Prince George's County
shall elect six (6) Road Directors for said County to serve in
the six (6) Road Districts created herein for a term of four
years from the first Monday in March next succeeding their
election, or until their succesors are duly elected and qualified.
The Road Director for each District to tie a resident in said
District for which he is elected. Said Road Directors shall be
nominated and elected as are other County Officers and the
Board of Election Supervisors are hereby directed to print the
names of the candidates for nomination to said offices and the
candidates for election thereto upon the official primary and
general election ballots as the names of other County Candi-
dates are printed. In case of a vacancy occurring in any
Directorship, by reason of death, resignation, removal or other
cause, the Board of County Commisisoners shall have power
to fill the same.

SEC. 283. The Board of County Commissioners shall have
power to open new roads, construct bridges and close old roads,
when they shall deem it advisable, following the provisions of
the Code of Public General Laws relating thereto. The ex-
pense thereof shall be charged to the Election District in which
said roads or bridges may be located, except as may be herein
otherwise provided and the work on such roads shall be done by
the Road Director for said District. The Board of County
Commissioners shall have the right to advertise for bids for the
construction of bridges and culverts, and to award such work,
under contract, to the lowest responsible bidder; where the cost
of the same exceeds $200.00, and in such cases the cost thereof
shall be charged to the general fund and not to the respective
Election District. They shall have the right to purchase or
lease gravel banks or stone quarries or otherwise acquire de-
sirable materials for road construction and repair and shall
have the right to condemn land for such purposes or for the
purpose of widening, straightening or opening roads as land
is now or may hereafter be condemned by law. The title to all
property, real, personal, or mixed in any way used in connec-
tion with the road system of Prince George's County is hereby
vested in the Board of County Commissioners of Prince
George's County and it shall require no conveyance or other
action by any other agents of the County now in existence, to
vest such title in the said Board of County Commissioners. All
